Item description

Cats are very smart, loving and fun animals but they require some attention. Cats grace the homes of people from all walks of life, and fill communities with life and energy. Learning to live indoors with these animals is a new challenge entirely. Cats are very intelligent, yet they can be hardheaded.

Keep your cat occupied by making your own dangly toys. Using soft cotton rope, cut a length of about two feet. Tie a knot at one end. Tie another knot about three inches from the opposite end. Unravel the rope below this knot. Attach the rope to the back of a kitchen chair for your cat to play.

Keep a clean litter box. Like you, a cat will generally not use a bathroom that is filthy. Find a quiet area out of the way that the box can stay in, and don't move it unless absolutely necessary. Scoop solids out a couple time of day. Make sure to dump the whole box, wash it with a gentle detergent, and refill it once a week.

Check your cat for ticks and fleas every week. If your cat does have fleas, there is a good chance that you also have fleas in your home. You might need some flea bombs or premise-control sprays, along with treating the cat, to get rid of the issue. If you don't know what products to use for controlling ticks and fleas, talk to your vet for some safe options.

Cats can use their claws to destroy furniture and other parts of the house. If you want to prevent or stop your cat from scratching up your furniture, the best thing to do is buy a scratching post or kitty tower for them to climb in. Redirect your cat to the scratching post when they start to go after your furniture. Catnip can be put in the posts or on the tower to help train the cat to use it. This solution might take time to take, but it will help in the end.

If you replace an old scratching post, your cat may be unhappy with the new one. Save money on scratching posts. Wrap your old scratching post with some sisal rope to spiff it up. Your cat will be happy not to lose its favorite old post. You will save a little cash.

You shouldn't be training your cats for litter box use. This is a natural instinct that cannot be taught. Don't force your cat into the box or you will traumatize them.

Find a litter that your cat enjoys. Different litters have different smells and textures, so help your cat to find a litter that he is generally comfortable with using. Cats generally like to keep things the same though, so don't experiment too often or your cat may avoid the litter box.

Do you have both a dog and a cat? Dogs will eat a cat's food any time they're given the chance. Because of this, you should keep your cat's food in a high spot that your dog won't be able to reach. Separate eating spaces are a must to avoid fights between your pets.

It is important to make sure that your cat always has fresh water available. You should refill your cats water dish everyday with clean water. There are drinking fountains that provide your cat with a constant stream of fresh water, so you do not have to worry about changing it as often.

Sometimes it seems as if your cat is sleeping all of his 9 lives away, however, this is perfectly normal. It is not unusual for cats to sleep up to 16 hours per day, and even more. Much of their sleep is light sleep, an instinct that keeps them ready in the event that a predator is nearby. About 25 percent of their sleep is deep sleep, where they dream and conserve energy. Cats love to sleep-a lot!

Give your cat a good brushing regularly. Brushing spreads natural oils through the fur and also stimulates circulation. Furthermore, it helps reduce all the loose hair. This prevents hairballs, which can cause choking, and builds up in the cat's stomach from self grooming.

Kittens should never be taken from their mothers before they are eight to ten weeks old. During this time, kittens learn most of their social Westchester Puppies and Kittens instinctive behaviors, and removing them from the mother too soon can cause future behavioral issues the mother cat could have taught them had they not been removed too early.

When listening to your favorite music, keep in mind that your cat's hearing is much more sensitive than your own. Music with high pitched treble and thumping bass are particularly difficulty for your cat, so keep the volume low. To please your cat and help him relax, play something with a slower tempo.

Keep kitty inside. Studies show that outdoor cats don't live as long, and going outside exposes your cat to diseases and injury. Some of the illnesses can actually be passed along to members of the household. Your indoor cat will be happy if it has a warm and sunny spot to sunbathe in or a window to look out of.

Make sure your indoor cat has something to occupy him while you are gone during the day. While your furry friend will spend a lot of time sleeping, he also needs something, or someone, to play with and stimulate his mind. Leaving him without toys or the company of others can quickly turn him into a trouble maker who destroys your house.

Do not give your cat any products that were made to get rid of fleas or worms if you know that she is pregnant. While you want to get rid of these pests once and for all, it is not worth placing your cat's health in any type of jeopardy.

If your cat is diabetic, check his blood sugar at least once a day. Having a record of his blood sugars can provide you with helpful information to pass on to your vet. Your vet can then adjust insulin and other medications accordingly. This can also help you to determine how food is effecting your cat's health condition.

While owning a cat has many benefits, it also requires a great deal of work. Be sure and implement the tips and tricks mentioned in the article above in order to give your cat the best life possible. A happy cat will serve as a wonderful companion for years and years.
